Pre-Medicine

Pre-medicine and pre-dental programs are popular choices for students at OBU. Pre-medicine and pre-dental are not majors, they merely reflect the desire of the student to apply to medical school or dental school after graduation from OBU. Several majors available at OBU fulfil all or most of the requirements for medical and dental schools. Naturally, these majors (Biology, Biochemistry, and Chemistry) are the most popular majors for such students, but any major can be chosen as long as the requirements of the professional school are met.

Common Medical and Dental School Requirements:

Two semesters of general chemsitry
Two semesters of organic chemistry
Two semesters of physics
Two semesters of biology
One or more semesters of calculus (varies greatly)

OBU students have met with great success in applying to professional schools. Some of the schools OBU students were accepted to in the last two years are the OU colege of Medicine, University of Kansas College of Medicine, Texas A&M College of Medicine, Univesity of Texas Southwestern College of Medicine, University of Tennessee-Memphis College of Medicine, University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, Des Moines University College of Podiatric Medicine, Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Western University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Mayo Clinic. Part of this sucess is due to the preparation most OBU receive beyond the minimun admission requirements listed above. Pre-medical and pre-dental students typically take such courses as Biochemistry, Advanced Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Human Anatomy during their courses of study.
